Brief Description |
The National School of Public Health Sergio Arouca (ENSP) is part of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (FIOCRUZ) under the Ministry of Health of Brazil. Established in 1954, it is the largest public health school in South America, with around a thousand professionals and a faculty of over 150 doctors. ENSP acts in the formation of human resources, research and provision of reference services in the field of public health. It receives each year about 120 new students in masters and doctoral courses originating from the most diverse regions in Brazil and abroad, especially from Latin America and Africa. |

Previous Experience |
In 2009 ENSP created the "Center for Studies, Policies and Information on Social Determinants of Health" (CEPI-DSS). CEPI-DSS is responsible for the production and dissemination of knowledge and information, staff training and monitoring and evaluation of policies related to SDH. CEPI-DSS maintain an Observatory on Health Inequities for monitoring health inequities, as well as for monitoring and evaluation of policies and interventions to combat them. CEPI-DSS is also responsible for a Portal on SDH (http://www.dssbr.org) and for a Virtual Library on SDH (http://bvsdss.icict.fiocruz.br) with more than 170.00 references on SDH. |

Alberto |
MD, PhD Alberto was Director of the Research Unit in Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) from 1986 to 2004 in Washington, DC. From 2006 to 2008 was responsible for the Technical Secretariat of the Brazilian National Commission on Social Determinants of Health. Currently is a Public Health Researcher in the National School of Public Health (ENSP/ FIOCRUZ) and Coordinator of the Center for Studies, Policies and Information on Social Determinants of Health (CEPI-DSS), ENSP/FIOCRUZ.

Marco Akerman

MD, MSc Health Planning and Financing, PhD Public Health and Epidemiology Marco has worked in PAHO as a Regional Assessor on Health and Local Development and Focal Point for SDH (2006-2009). He is currently working as an associate professor at Universidade de São Paulo (USP) and is a collaborator of the Center for Studies, Policies and Information on Social Determinants of Health (CEPI-DSS).

Elis is researcher at the Center for Studies, Policies and Information on Social Determinants of Health (CEPI-DSS) of the National School of Public Health (ENSP/FIOCRUZ). Her research interests relate to racial and ethnic inequities in health, social determinants and social determination of the health-disease process as well as environmental justice and health.

MD, MSc Collective Health Javier is medical doctor and researcher at the Center for Studies, Policies and Information on Social Determinants of Health (CEPI-DSS). His research interests relate to financialization in health care, social inequities in health and health reforms in Latin America. |
